Betty was born on February 7, 1938, at her maternal grandmother's home in Eaton, Colorado, to David and Anna (Meyer) Deines. At an early age, the family moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she began her education. The family moved to the Dutch Flats area, north of Mitchell, when she was in first grade. Her elementary education was completed at the Haig School, and she graduated from Scottsbluff High School with the class of 1955.
Betty met the love of her life, Wayne Batt, and they married on October 26, 1956. The couple celebrated 64 anniversaries together before Wayne’s passing in 2020. Their union was blessed with two precious children, Sheila and Dale.
In total, Betty worked thirty years full-time and thirteen years part-time. Betty's full-time work included being a school bus driver for the Sunflower School, and in 1987, Betty went to work for the Scottsbluff County Register of Deeds Office, starting as a recording clerk and retiring as a Deputy Register in 2005. Her part-time work included driving school buses for Fairview School and doing fill-in work as a legal secretary for several law offices in the Scottsbluff area. During her off-time, Betty would help Wayne on the farm, especially during harvest time.
Betty enjoyed gardening and always had a large vegetable garden, which she would can and preserve for later use. She was also an accomplished seamstress, creating coats, dresses, and other items for Sheila and herself. Betty enjoyed cooking but not baking.
Betty is survived by her children, Sheila (Mark) Yung of Torrington and Dale (Jenny) Batt of Mitchell; grandchildren, Lindsey (Bryan) Prosinski, Ryan (Samantha) Yung, and Corbin (Teagan) Batt all of Torrington and Jesse (Kassidy) Young of Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Claire, Cole, Augusta, Everett, Matilda, Henry, and Addison; and brother, Dwight (Susan Craig) Deines of Mitchell.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; and her parents, Dave and Anna Deines.
