Cartina Giron (Castaneda), of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Bryan West Medical Campus in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering, Nebraska, with Fr. Todd Philipsen as Celebrant. Cartina will then be laid to eternal rest at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. The Mass will be livestreamed and recorded on her obituary page, viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.
Cartina was born to Raphael and Antonia (Garcia) Castaneda in Scottsbluff.
She married Jess Medina, and to this union six children were born: Mary Ellen, Norma, Jess, Judy, Laura, and Phillip. They were her pride and joy. Cartina later married Paul Giron, who was a loving father to her children.
Cartina lived a full and wonderful life of 98 years. She received many accolades and honors for her outreach work with Migrant Services, of which she was very proud.
Survivors include her sister, Carmen Trevino; sons; daughters; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Cartina was preceded in death by her late husband, Paul Giron; brother, Ralph Castaneda; daughter, Mary Ellen Magdaleno; sister-in-law, Marcela Castenada; brother-in-law, Gilbert Trevino; sons-in-law, Ralph Magdaleno and Marvin Powell; and grandson, Felipe Medina.
