Curtis Read Kath, age 71, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at his home. Curtis was born on July 8, 1954, in Moses Lake, Washington, the second of four children to Robert and Bessie (Platz) Kath. The family moved to Sterling, Colorado, followed by Gering, Nebraska, where he spent many years living near extended family. After graduating from Gering High School in 1972, Curtis went on to attend WNCC and completed his baccalaureate degree from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1977.
Curtis spent his career working within his field in Illinois, Florida, and New Mexico, as well as many years in the Scottsbluff and Gering, Nebraska area. As a funeral director and mortician, he had a soft, caring nature in guiding families during their time of loss.
He is survived by his children, Kirstin Berge (Harald) of Haugesund, Norway, Alexandrea Tiglao (Anthony) of Sumner, Washington, and Ian Kath (Maleri) of Kingston, Washington; grandchildren, Aurora, Luna, and Ruby; brother, R. Scott Kath (Margaret) of Powell, Wyoming; sister, Cheryl Trumbull (William) of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; along with nieces and a nephew.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bradford; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
