He entered the U.S. Navy in 1956 and served on the USS Haven hospital ship stationed in Japan. Donald was honorably discharged in October of 1957.
He was married to June Rose Gish on May 28, 1958, in Blair, Nebraska, and from this union came five wonderful children: Lorrie, Leana, David, Dennis, and LaDonna.
Donald was born a cowboy and lived his life by the cowboy creed, “no one is ever a stranger” and “give it your all”, and informing us all that this was “his last ride”. Donald entered life with a smile on his face and earned the nickname "Hap”. He left this life also with a smile and laughter, asking for one last strawberry shake. “Ace High”, we will see you on the other side.
Survivors include his children, Lorrie Ringleman (Launy) of Imperial, Nebraska, Leana Rosentrater (Rick) of Bridgeport, Nebraska, David Davis of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Dennis Davis of Iron Belt, Wisconsin, and LaDonna Tate (Dave) of Keller, Texas; he was the beloved granddad of fifteen grandchildren, Frank, Shelley, Katie, Emily, and Mollie, Jim and Andrea, and Tyler, Aúrora, Rachel, Maverick, Noahlene, and Juneil; and 38 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Donna Swim (Roger) of Springview, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vada; brother, Mervin; and his beloved older brother, "Sonny".
Special thanks to his granddaughter, Rachel Holbrook, we couldn't have done it without you! His grandson, Maverick Davis, for being our "rock", and his granddaughter, Andrea Mills, for keeping his cowboy spirit alive for the next generation.
