Donna Mae Munoz

Donna Mae Munoz, 83, a long-time resident of Gering, Nebraska, passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on Friday, August 11, 2023, in Thornton, Colorado, where she had moved to live with her daughter in 2021.

Donna was born to Emerson Shaw and Florence (Eastman) Shaw on May 7, 1940, in Rosebud, South Dakota.  Donna moved to Gering in 1981 where she resided and enjoyed most of her years. While there, you could find her browsing many garage sales and thrift stores around the valley. Donna worked as the property manager for Grey Eagle Apartments, to which she was always known for being kind and compassionate to those who were in need, before she retired. As a Gering resident, she was an avid Runza, Dairy Queen, and Pizza Hut lover. She spent many special moments with all her grandchildren, which she considered her own during her time in Thornton. “Grandma Donna” was especially fond of her time with grandchildren, Christian Munoz and Ariana Munoz. The Munoz family ensured Donna felt the love for every holiday, birthday, and special occasion during her time with them.  

Donna is survived her children, Mary Munoz of Thornton, Colorado, Joseph Lundstrom of San Antonio, Texas, Robert (Bob) Prue of Lawrence, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Silvia Rivero of Southgate, Michigan; sister, Joyce Ford of Gering; and brother, Anthony (Lib) Shaw of Colombia, South Carolina. Donna is also survived by nine grandsons, ten granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and six great-granddaughters.  Other family members include Martin (Cinda) Munoz, Sylvia (Henry) Flores, Juanita “Becky” (Patrick) DeCluette, Patrick (Michelle) Munoz, and Lawrence “Nico” (Amanda) Munoz, mostly of Scottsbluff.  Along with numerous nieces and nephews that she loved and considered her own, as well as many extended family and friends.

Donna was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Edward and Patrick Lundstrom; son-in-law, Richard Munoz; grandson, Brett Lundstrom; her parents; brothers, Emerson Shaw Jr, John Shaw, Robert Shaw, and James Shaw; and sisters, Velma Salway, Silvia Clifford, and Dolores Wright. 

Arrangements in Colorado are being handled by Horan & McConaty - 9998 Grant St. Thornton, CO 80229   Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 18, 2023, with a rosary beginning at 6:00 pm.

Arrangements in Nebraska are being handled by Reverence Funeral Parlor  - 2002 Char Ave. Scottsbluff, Nebraska.  A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 21, 2023, at Christ the King Catholic Church 1345 18th St., Gering, Nebraska  69341 with Fr. Mike McDonald as Celebrant. The Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. and viewing will begin at 9 a.m. at the church. The service will be livestreamed and recorded to Donna’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com. Final interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering immediately following the Mass. We kindly invite all attendees to wear any item or clothes of her favorite color pink, in her honor, if you feel comfortable doing so.
