Dorothy M. Huffman, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Heritage Estates in Gering, Nebraska, surrounded by family. She was 95 years old.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, May 1, 2026, at Monument Bible Church, located at 4124 Ave. I, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Burial will take place at 9 a.m. at Kirk Cemetery, 1800 County Rd 63, Potter, Nebraska. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff. Dorothy and her twin sister, Doris, were born to George E. and Margaret (Jackson) Pile, on June 10, 1930, in Banner County. She received her elementary education at District #3 in rural Banner County. Dorothy graduated from Banner County High School in 1948, as valedictorian of her class. After attending Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, Colorado, she taught in the rural schools in Banner County for five years.
Since 1943, Dorothy has been a member of the Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church of Banner County.
On August 30, 1953, she was united in marriage to Archie H. Huffman of the Kirk Community until Archie’s death in March 2011. To this union, five children were born.
Dorothy served two terms as a member of the Banner County Board of Education, and for 19 years was the secretary for the Banner County Historical Society. She was also a charter member of the “Dollars for Scholars” Scholarship Committee of Banner County and served in that capacity for several years.
Survivors include her children, Howard (Wendy) of Lincoln, Raymond of Gering, Bryan (Sandra) of Banner County, and Doris of Lincoln; seven grandsons; three granddaughters; 17 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Ruth L. Pile of Gering.
Preceding her in death are her beloved husband, Archie Huffman; beloved son, Lyle Huffman; her parents; twin sister, Doris Pile; brothers, Wayne and Walter Pile; and sisters, Fern Barrett, Idrys Davis, and Ruth Mortenson.
Memorials in Dorothy’s honor may be made to the Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church, the Kirk Cemetery Fund, or to the family for future designation.
