Dustin "Dusty" Lee Johnston

Dustin “Dusty” Lee Johnston, age 40, of Bayard, Nebraska, passed away at his home on Monday, September 22, 2025. Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Chimney Rock Cemetery in Bayard. Memorials may be made to his mother, Lori Scott, for final expenses. Dusty was born on February 18, 1985, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Herbert Lee and Lori Lee (Meyer) Johnston. He attended Highland Elementary School in Minatare, Nebraska. Dusty was a member of FFA and graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 2003.

He was a handy man with many natural talents. Dusty’s knack for picking up new skills easily led him to many opportunities in a variety of occupations.

Dusty enjoyed cooking and most of all, spending quality time with family and friends to enjoy those meals. He spent his free time working on cars, especially Hondas.

Survivors include his parents, Herb (LaNell) Johnston and Lori (Kelly) Scott; aunt, Lisa Nelson; uncle, James Johnston; nephew, Tristian Reynolds; numerous other aunts and uncles; several very special, close friends (you know who you are); and his beloved dog, Buddy.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Johnston; grandparents, Chuck and Jan Meyer, Ray Johnston, Jerry Heil, and Linda Kuempel; and dog, Athena.
