Gary Martin Engelhaupt, age 81, of Gering, Nebraska, passed away February 3, 2026, at his home. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following day, beginning at 11 a.m., at the church, with Fr. Todd Phillipsen as Celebrant. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Memorials in Gary’s honor may be made to Pup Packs. The Mass will be livestreamed and recorded on Gary’s obituary page, viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.
Gary was born May 17, 1944, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Martin and Lyla (Klein) Engelhaupt. He obtained a GED and went on to serve in the Army National Guard.
Gary married Mary Wiest, and together they welcomed a daughter, Carrie. He later married Sue Morgan, and he was blessed with five more children: Aaron, Beth, Craig, Drew, and Evan. In 1993, Gary married Marge Deines, and the couple made their home in Gering until the time of his death.
Gary was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, finding joy in hunting, boating, and camping. He was a faithful member of Christ the King Catholic Church, regularly attending Mass until ill-health limited his mobility.
Survivors include his wife, Marge Engelhaupt; children, Carrie Moore, and Aaron, Beth, Craig, and Drew Engelhaupt; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Pam Elledge, Sharon Grover, and Dan Engelhaupt; and other extended family members.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Lyla Engelhaupt; son, Evan Engelhaupt; and sister, Rose Kopecky.
