George Michael Nazarenus

October 30, 1929 — June 29, 2025

George Michael Nazarenus, age 95, of Gering, Nebraska, passed away at Regional West Medical Center, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff with George’s nephew, Pastor Bob Nazarenus, officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. The Nebraska Army National Guard and Gering American Legion Post 36 Honor Guard will provide military funeral honors. In honor of George’s love for animals, the family asks that memorials be made to the Panhandle Humane Society. The service will be live-streamed and recorded on George’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.

George was born on October 30, 1929, in Scottsbluff, to George E. and Catherine (Berndt) Nazarenus. He was one of ten children and the second youngest. George attended Scottsbluff Public Schools. He joined the United States Army in 1951 and served as an auto mechanic in the motor pool.

He met the love of his life, Marge “Margie” Louise Rogowski, and the two married on August 28, 1954. The couple made their lifelong home in Gering where they raised their son, Scott. George worked as an auto parts store manager at Masek Auto Supply for 40 years before retiring.

George loved to garden in his free time. His green thumb brought forth many bountiful harvests over the years. George enjoyed getting his hands dirty year-round. He started all of his plants from seed indoors to ensure they would be ready every spring.

Survivors include his son, Scott (Bobbi) Nazarenus; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie; siblings, Linda (John) Zwetzig, Amelia “Milly” (Pete) Hessler, Arthur (Marion), Henry (Mary), and Harry (Mary) Nazarenus, Marie (Glenn) Krichau, Kathryn (Gerald) DeMaranville, Lydia (Harold) Steinert, and Gilbert Nazarenus; and nephews, Jason DeMaranville and Peter Krichau.
