Gilbert Trevino

July 11, 1947 — October 28, 2024

Gilbert Trevino, age 77, of Mitchell, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. His memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff, Nebraska with Fr. Mike McDonald officiating. The Nebraska Army National Guard and Gering American Legion Post 36 will provide military honors. Cremation has taken place in accordance with Gilbert’s wishes. Memorials may be made in care of the family and will be designated at a later date. The service will be livestreamed and recorded on Gilbert’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.

Gilbert was born on July 11, 1947, in Scottsbluff to Benito Sr. and Trinidad (Romero) Trevino. He attended Scottsbluff Public Schools and received his GED while serving in the U.S. Army from July of 1965 to July of 1969.

Throughout his childhood he enjoyed playing baseball with family and friends in the neighborhood “sandlot” and for the “23 Club”. Gilbert was also a “Folkloric” dancer during his elementary and early high school years being a great dancer.

On June 26, 1970, he married Carmen Castaneda in Alliance, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born, Renee and Theresa. 

His grandchildren were the loves of his life, as he was theirs. They treasured every moment together, especially on the many trips to Disneyland he would take them on. He taught them so many things and made wonderful memories that will live in their hearts forever.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carmen; daughters, Renee Malm and Theresa Trevino; and grandchildren, Laetner and Landon Malm. In addition, his sisters, Bernice Dominguez, Cora (Rudy) Hernandez, Sarah Pina, Mary (JJ) Maldonado; and brother, Daniel Trevino.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Shane Malm; parents, Benito Sr and Trinidad Trevino; brothers, Bennie Trevino and Reuben Trevino; sister-in-law, Vikki Trevino; brother-in-law, Henry Pina; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
