Glenn Schleve Sr.

May 1, 1942 — July 11, 2022

Glenn R. Schleve Sr., 80, of Morrill, Nebraska, died Monday, July 11, 2022, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.  A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2022, at the Morrill American Legion Post 10 with Pastor Joseph Schumacher officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard and Gering American Legion Post 36 Honor Guard.  Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes.  The service will be livestreamed and recorded to Glenn’s obituary page viewable at  Memorials may be made to the Veteran’s Help Foundation or to Morrill Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

Glenn was born May 1, 1942, in Valentine, Nebraska to Carl and Winifred (Stillwell) Schleve.  He attended school in Valentine until his final high school years when he transferred to Westminster Colorado High School graduating in 1960.  He enlisted in the United States Army in September 1961.

Glenn married Gail Anne Homan on November 26, 1961, in Valentine.  Four children were born to their union: Glenn Jr., Gwen, Pam, and Harley.

Glenn was honorably discharged from the service in 1964.  He then began working in the grocery industry for a few years.  He acquired an interest in law enforcement and started his first police officer duties in 1970 in Valentine where he worked for the police department and sheriff’s office.  He and his family moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska and he continued his education achieving his Associate’s degree.  They soon moved to Kearney and Glenn achieved a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice while serving at the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office as an officer. He relocated to Morrill, Nebraska. He became employed at the Torrington Police Department advancing towards his Master’s degree which he obtained through Chadron State College.  Glenn also began what would be an inspiring 26-year career at Eastern Wyoming College as the criminal justice instructor.  He led the EWC Criminal Justice Club to eight National titles during that time.  Glenn also had a short stint as the interim EWC head basketball coach.  Glenn retired, but shortly after, began a role as a probation officer for eight years in Goshen County.  He was a city councilman in Morrill and also elected as a Scotts Bluff County Commissioner.  He remained in that position until his official retirement in 2020.

He enjoyed golfing and deer hunting in his leisure time.  Glenn also had a side job playing 50s and 60s music for various events. He was an avid Broncos and Huskers fan.  He was proud to have been a security guard at the Huskers “game of the century”.  Glenn was a loving grandpa and treasured the time and memories shared with his grandkids and great grandkids.  He was everyone’s friend and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Gail; children, Glenn Jr. (Melinda) Schleve, Gwen (Rodney) Walsh, Pam Schleve, and Harley Schleve; grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, and Adam (Leslie) Mack, Annaliese and Alissa Schleve, Christopher and Nicholas (Marlie) Honstein, Winifred (Todd) Harris, Jennie (Terryl) Bartow, Chauncey (Chelsea) Cassels, Raina Younkin, and Holden, Tierney, and Cooper Schleve; great grandchildren, Brianna and Hadley Huston, Olivia and Kaleb Mack, Cylie Honstein, Rian Twogood, Stevie Honstein, Eden Tuzson, River and Liam Honstein, Brinley Walsh, Max Hudson, Annabell and Abigail Harris, and Louis Bartow; brothers, Robert and David (Mardelle) Schleve; sisters-in-law, Kay Schleve, and Jane and Jackie Homan; along with extended family members and friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Winifred Schleve; in-laws, Aloid and Annabell Homan; siblings, Forrest, Carl and Clayton Schleve, Colleen and Harlan Knudsen, Bruce and Gerry Schleve; and great granddaughter, Danika Huston.
