Born on March 14, 1934, in Sidney, Nebraska, Harvey was the eldest child of Elmer and Clara Mueller. He grew up alongside his three sisters, Shirley, Elaine, and Betty Lou. From a young age Harvey demonstrated a remarkable talent for mechanics and an enduring passion for anything with a motor.
Harvey’s early fascination with engines blossomed into a lifelong love of speed and racing. A founding member of the Gering Racetrack, he shared this passion with his sons and built a legacy not only through the championships he won, but through the memories created with family and friends at the track. For Harvey, racing was never just about winning—it was about connection, camaraderie, and community. His stories of those days were legendary among those who knew him.
On December 10, 1953, Harvey married Wanda A. Morton. Together they raised five children: Rock (Dovi), Rick (Ann), Rusty (Teri), Renee, and Robb (Trish). Harvey’s devotion to his family was unwavering. He was a proud father to his children and cherished grandfather to 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Harvey had an extraordinary ability to make friends wherever he went. Known for his warm heart and generous spirit, he never met a stranger. Whether helping someone in need or sharing a laugh over one of his many stories (often about delivering oversized loads to remote places or building stock cars) he brought joy and kindness into every interaction.
In addition to racing, Harvey served as a volunteer firefighter and earned his pilot’s license, a testament to his adventurous spirit. Flying became one of his favorite hobbies in later years. He also found great joy in camping and boating with family. Many treasured memories were made at their cabin on Lake McConaughy or during trips to Jackson Hole and Glendo, Wyoming.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Clara Mueller; his beloved wife, Wanda; his son, Rick; and sisters, Shirley and Elaine.
May the memory of Harvey E. Mueller bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life well lived, full of love, laughter, adventure, and deep connection.
