Howard Keith Prickett Sr., age 88, of Mitchell, Nebraska, passed away Monday, November 4, 2024, at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard, Nebraska. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2024, at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, Nebraska. The Nebraska Army National Guard and Gering American Legion Post 36 Honor Guard will provide military funeral honors. Memorials may be made to the Veteran’s Help Foundation, an organization that provides hunting and fishing opportunities for disabled veterans. Howard “Keith” was born July 4, 1936, in Morrill, Nebraska. He was the youngest of seven children born to Clarence Emerson and Grace Mae (Surratt) Prickett.
He was honored to serve and be a 24-year veteran of the United States Army and proud to be a Vietnam veteran. The Army allowed him to live in many different countries and US states. He shared lots of stories about his travels. Keith was lucky enough to meet and marry a lady from South Georgia, Helen Janice “Jan” Mobley. They were married for 57 years and welcomed three children, a daughter in Tehran, Iran, another daughter at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and a son at Fort Hood, Texas.
After his Army retirement, Keith tried different things before settling on being a ditch rider for Goshen Irrigation District. He eventually retired from this job and had many amusing stories to share. He served as a Lyman village board member and a Lyman volunteer fireman.
Survivors include his daughter, Lynn (Danny) Bailey of Aurora, Colorado; son, Keith (Kathy) Prickett of Mitchell, Nebraska; grandchildren and great- grandchildren, Quentin (Samantha) Gibb, TJ, William and Phoenix of Liberty Lake, Washington, Dustin Fankhauser, Marissa (great great-grandson on the way), Grace and Hunter of Gering, Nebraska, Katy (Kyle) Fody, Lauren, Lane and Kai of Lingle, Wyoming, Mindy (Mike) Anderson, Hope, Landon and Amy of Wakefield, Kansas, Thomas Prickett (Simone Rodriguez) of Gilbert, Arizona, Michael (Alisha) Barfield, and Katy (great great-grandson, Payton), MaKayla, Hunter and Fisher of Adel, Georgia; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Grace Prickett; wife, Janice Prickett; daughter, Brenda Prickett; granddaughter, Valorie Fankhauser; brothers, Lyle, Laverne, and Lloyd Prickett; and sisters, Wilma, Marguerite, and Etta.
One life ends and another begins...a great great-granddaughter, Nataly, arrived twelve minutes after his passing.
