James L. Lashley, 78, of Midland, MI, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children on June 28, 2026. A celebration of life will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Beecher Hall, 1730 18th Street, Mitchell, NE. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s memory to the Chippewa Nature Center in Midland, MI. Born on February 25, 1948, James was the son of Howard and Jessie (Douglass) Lashley. He lived a life defined by his dedication to his family and his community. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Dianna K. Schledewitz, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Together, they shared a beautiful journey of 60 years of marriage, built on mutual love, respect, and countless shared memories.
James was a proud and supportive father to his children, and took immense pride in guiding them through life. He spent most of his life farming and ranching. After moving to Michigan later in life, he drove bus for Bullock Creek Schools. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and integrity will live on in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Dianna; his children, Mike (Karla) Lashley of Lingle, WY, Brian (Shannon) Lashley of Medicine Bow, WY, and Valerie (Jason) Brandt of Midland MI. His grandchildren, Skyler (Christine) Lashley, Danielle (Brandon) Roland, Ashley Hixson, Trevor Hixson, Brennon Lashley, Carson Brandt, Marshall Brandt; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill Lashley and Robert (Margaret) Lashley; as well as a large circle of extended family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Vickie Lashley; and grandson, Trent Lashley.
