Jimmy Ray Carlson, age 89, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In recognition of Jim’s lifelong support of 4-H, memorials may be made to the Jim Carlson 4-H Memorial Fund at Riverstone Bank. Jim was born on August 30, 1936, to Amos Bruce and Grace Ione (Hankins) Carlson on their family farm in Gering, Nebraska. He graduated from Sunflower School.
He married Sandra Sue Snider on November 21, 1959, in Scottsbluff. They became loving parents to three children: Jimmy Jr., Jaci, and Corey. The couple later moved to Arlington, Texas, in 1992.
Jim enjoyed working with his hands and labored as a farmer for much of his life. He later worked at a Holiday Inn for 8 years while living in Texas. Jim and Sue longed for family time and returned to Scottsbluff in 2014. He was a door greeter at Walmart until he and Sue retired during the pandemic in 2020.
He enjoyed word puzzles and was an avid baseball fan. Jim bought season tickets every summer and loved watching the Western Nebraska Pioneers.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Carlson; children, Jimmy (Sylvia) Carlson and Jaci (Ted) Morris; sister, Nola (Dwayne) Thul; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Corey Carlson; and brother, Lonnie Carlson.
