Josephine was born on March 19, 1923, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Joseph and Martha (Garcia) Quevedo. She devoted her heart and life to God from an early age. Josephine entered the Corpus Christi Carmelite Convent at just eighteen years old, where she took the name Sister Theresa Lawrence. Her spiritual journey was defined by humility, prayer, and unwavering dedication. She was honored with her Silver Jubilee in August of 1969, celebrating twenty-five years of faithful service as a Carmelite nun.
Her devotion never wavered throughout her life. Josephine lived rooted in faith, service, and steadfast love for her family and community. She prayed the rosary each night and found joy in serving others through her church. Josephine later left the Convent and Commissary and moved to Denver, Colorado. She joined Whitaker Power Storage as a production line worker. Josephine turned her full attention to her Church and family following her retirement.
She was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Westminster, Colorado. Her quiet acts of service reflected her deep faith, whether she was ironing sacred linens, preparing the host for Mass, or teaching Catechism. She touched countless lives through her gentle spirit, loyal devotion, compassionate heart, and enduring faith. Josephine never had children of her own but played a maternal role to many. She lived with Ramona Medina for sixty years and became an integral part of that household and extended family. Her great-great-niece, Danielle Medina, held a particularly special place in her heart and filled the space of a daughter.
Josephine, affectionately referred to as Aunt Jo, was the heart of the family. She was the one who never let anyone leave hungry and always offered help to those in need. She adored children and took great delight in their company. Her home was filled with warmth, prayer, and unconditional love. Her legacy is one of compassion, devotion, and grace. Josephine touched countless lives through both quiet acts of kindness and steadfast spiritual guidance. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire love and faith for generations to come.
