LeRoy Lerwick

Melvin LeRoy Lerwick, age 75, passed away March 30, 2024, at Canyon Valley Memory Care in Green Valley, Arizona. Services were held in Elizabeth, Colorado at 2 p.m., on April 10, 2024, and at 10 a.m., April 11, 2024, at Hull Community Cemetery in Banner County, Nebraska. LeRoy was born September 1, 1948, to Melvin and Gladys (Mullens) Lerwick in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He spent his childhood on the family farm in the Hull community southwest of Gering, Nebraska and attended grade school at the Hull and Wheatland schools in the community. He graduated from Morrill High School in 1966. After one year at Nebraska Western College, he went on to the University of Nebraska where he graduated with a general agriculture degree in 1970. 

He committed his life to God in his youth and was faithful to that choice until death. LeRoy went into the ministry in 1970 and after two years in Nebraska and eleven years in Colorado, he was called to Ecuador in 1983. He remained there until his health failed in 2018. 

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Alton and Elinor Lerwick of Lyman, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Jerry Freed of Rapid City, South Dakota; six nephews and nieces, Christa Carver, Dean (Jennifer) Lerwick, Grant (Kelley) Lerwick, Jared (Kendra) Lerwick, Laura (Trevor) Overby, and Brandon Freed; thirteen great nephews and great nieces; and one great-great nephew. He will also be missed by a host of friends. 

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Margaret; an infant brother; and his sister, Ellen Freed.
