Linda Irene Greene

Linda Irene Greene, age 76, of Gering, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at her home with her loved ones by her side. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2026, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, with Pastor Cliff Transmeier officiating. Inurnment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made to the Panhandle Humane Society. Linda was born on January 13, 1950, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Clifford and Thelma Irene (Matson) Prince. She was the oldest of four girls and was given the responsibility of her sibling's care in the summers and managing the house for her folks. She was a 1968 graduate of Scottsbluff High School, where her years were full of activity as a member of the choir directed by the famous Dr. Eph Ehly. Linda had perfect pitch and was a wonderful alto. She was in the special acapella choir and participated in their trips to Colorado where they won many awards for their performances. Linda sang in musicals for three years and attended rehearsals with her friend, Linda Todd, who was in the orchestra. You could frequently hear Linda singing along with the songs playing in the grocery store, and people would often stop to tell her she had a great voice.

She married Mark A. Larson, who gave his life serving his country in Vietnam. Linda later married Kent M. Greene and went on to raise four sons: Donald Kent, Robert Ray, Jeromy Michael, and Craig Phillip. She devoted her life to caring for others. Her early career included fond years at Vick’s Pizza Parlor in Scottsbluff, followed by work with several nursing care facilities in Gering and Scottsbluff. For over 15 years, she poured her heart into running a home daycare and deeply loved every child in her care. You could always hear her laughter if you stopped by when she was babysitting. Linda continued her life of service by providing home healthcare for the elderly and disabled, leaving a legacy defined by compassion for others.

Linda was a champion gift giver. You knew you were loved if you ever received her sugar cookies, peanut butter fudge, or a hand crocheted scarf for Christmas. She would consider the personality of those she was buying or making gifts for, and the present was always ideal for the occasion. You knew Linda spent time thinking of you as she would mull over gifts for weeks before she found just the perfect thing. Her friend, Linda Dittmar, was the recipient of many of Linda’s cherished offerings. She had a massive, caring heart and found immense joy in showering others with thoughtful presents and kindness.

She was selfless, compassionate, and brought warmth everywhere she went with her signature laugh that could light up any room. Linda loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild unconditionally and always put the needs of others above her own. Whether she was nurturing plants and tending to her garden where she grew giant cabbages, caring for animals, or looking after her family, she was a natural caregiver to all living things and a true angel on earth.

Survivors include her sons, Donald (Karen), Robert (Toni Cardona), Jeromy, and Craig (Jessica) Greene; granddaughters, Alyssa Greene and Libby (Ben) Rein; great-granddaughter Maddison Rein; sisters, Janet Smallman, Kathy (Joe) Smallman, and Susan Anderson; several special nieces and nephews; special cat, Lilly; and her favorite dogs of the family, Ruby, Oliver, Evie, and Muffy.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Johnston; father, Clifford Prince; grandson, Adam Greene; and niece, Casey.
