Maria Flora DeLeon

Maria Flora DeLeon, age 80, of Gering, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, surrounded by her family. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. MST, on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Templo Shalom in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Jose Martinez officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. MST, on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff. Maria Flora Echartea Olmeda was born on September 1, 1945, in Ejido La Gavia, Tamaulipas, México to her parents, Guadalupe Echartea and Maria Sixta Olmeda. She was united in marriage to Noah De Leon on October 8, 1961, and to this union, nine children were born.

Born in Mexico, Flora gave up the only home she knew to immigrate with her family to the US. Here she built a life of purpose, filling her days with sewing, crocheting, and tending to her flower garden. She lifted her voice in song for the Lord, and she always kept an open spot at the table. However, her greatest gift was being a strong and loving mom to her nine children, making sure a warm meal was had every day. Her second love was being a grandma to her many grandchildren, gifting them with items made by her own loving hands. Her genuine hugs and contagious laugh will be missed forever.

Survivors include her children, Noel DeLeon, Karmen Ellis (Roy), Daniel DeLeon, Misael DeLeon, Noelia Mankhey, Moises DeLeon (Adela), Maria Garza (Eli), Nohemi Leal (Jorge), and Noe DeLeon (Milissa); 22 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Flora was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Noah; her parents, Guadalupe Echartea and Maria Sixta Olmeda; and her siblings, Javier Echartea and Bruno Echartea.

Aquí construyó una vida con propósito, llenando sus días con costura, crochet y cuidando su jardín de flores. Alzaba la voz en canto al Señor, y siempre mantenía un lugar libre en la mesa. Sin embargo, su mayor regalo era ser una mamá fuerte y amorosa para sus nueve hijos, asegurándose de que tuviera una comida caliente todos los días. Su segundo amor fue ser abuela para sus muchos nietos, regalándoles cosas hechas por sus propias manos amorosas. Sus abrazos genuinos y su risa contagiosa serán extrañados para siempre.

Le sobreviven sus hijos: Noel DeLeon, Karmen Ellis (Roy), Daniel DeLeon, Misael DeLeon, Noelia Mankhey, Moises DeLeon (Adela), Maria Garza (Eli), Nohemi Leal (Jorge) y Noe DeLeon (Milissa); 22 nietos; 39 bisnietos; y 3 tataranietos.

Flora fue precedida en la muerte por su amado esposo de 57 años, Noah; sus padres, Guadalupe Echartea y María Sixta Olmeda; y sus hermanos, Javier Echartea y Bruno Echartea.
