Martha was born January 1, 1921, in Topeka, Kansas, to Donicio and Josefa (Gonzalez) Ramirez. She attended elementary school in Topeka and later moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Martha was united in marriage to Joseph E. Quevedo on September 21, 1935. They were blessed with six children: Socorro, Mary Ruth, Consuela, Joseph Jr., Ricardo, and Lawrence. Martha worked at Sunshine Laundry, Ideal Linen, and the Eagle Café. She was later the supervisor for laundry housekeeping at the Scottsbluff Inn until her retirement.

Martha was a talented seamstress and enjoyed doing embroidery. She created many beautiful homemade aprons for family and friends. She liked cooking, especially making her delicious tamales and homemade pan dulce. Her pies were also amazing, bringing joy to every gathering. Martha’s capirotada was a family favorite during Lent. Dancing was another passion of Martha’s, and in her younger years, she would frequently attend dances where she would dance the night away. Martha loved Mexican music and eagerly anticipated its melodies every Sunday when the radio station would play it during the days when such scheduled broadcasts filled the airwaves.

Her husband, Joseph Sr., passed away in 1976, and Martha became a very dedicated, strong-willed lady of her time, taking meticulous care of her home and yard independently. She never gave up and would often say she needed to keep herself busy. She admired her flowers and knew how to take care of them very well. Martha was a devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, and praying was a big part of her life. She said the rosary every night and prayed for all her children and their children. Martha was very proud of her family and knowing they were making bigger accomplishments in their lives. She told everyone she knew that she was a five-generation, 26 times, and what a true blessing it was to her.

We will all remember the stories she shared with us and cherish the beautiful memories that we have of her. She will be dearly missed by her loving family, but what a wonderful life she was blessed with.
