Marv was born on January 16, 1936, in Bassett, Nebraska, to Paul and Edith (Sanger) Bussinger. He was raised on a ranch five miles southeast of Bassett. Marv attended country school and later boarded with the Turpin family in Bassett, while attending Rock County High School where he graduated in 1954. He was selected for Nebraska All-State in football and earned a full-ride scholarship to the University of Wyoming. Marv declined the opportunity because he wanted to be a rancher. This decision later made him adamant as a father to ensure that his children attended college.

He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Naomi Larson, on July 23, 1956. They enjoyed over 64 years of marriage.

The couple moved to Pinedale, Wyoming, where Marv worked as a wrangler and Naomi as the cook at a hunting and fishing camp. They lived in a cabin with no running water and no electricity. Marv and Naomi returned to Bassett after two years and Marv went to work on Arrowsmith Ranch. They later moved to the Dix/Kimball, Nebraska area in 1962. Marv began working as a Conservation Officer for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Four years later, he was transferred to Alliance, Nebraska.

The family moved to Gordon, Nebraska, in 1972 where Naomi and Marv were hired to manage the newly built Gordon Theater. The next year, the couple purchased the theater from the Greater Gordon Corporation. In addition to working at the theater, Marv began working for Frank Diercks at the Gordon Livestock Auction. He enjoyed working with cattle again and visiting with ranchers in the field. Marv opened Bussinger Feed where he sold livestock feed with his brother, Gerald. He and Naomi retired in 2004 and sold both the theater and feed store.

Marv enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing with his friends. He loved to dance with Naomi, especially to the music of the Brown Sugar and Twin River bands.

Two weeks after Naomi’s passing in 2021, Marv suffered an ischemic stroke. He lived his final years in Mitchell, NE, with his son Rodney and daughter-in-law Jeanine.

Survivors include his children, Jamalee Stone and Rod (Jeanine) Bussinger; grandchildren, Gabriel Stone, Mallory (Beau) Fochtman, Brent (Sam) Bussinger, and Jenna Sterling; great-grandchildren, Jaxyn and Tilly Stone, and Emersyn Fochtman; sister-in-law, Dorothy Kuxhausen; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Naomi; infant son, Wayne Allen; sisters, JoAnn and Paula; brothers, Gayle, Ken, and Gerald; and his parents, Paul and Edith.
