Mary was born on August 8, 1959, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Adolph Alexander and LaVonne Ellen (McKinley) Nortness. She was raised on a farm in Mitchell alongside her siblings, Carol and Jerry. Growing up, Mary developed a deep love for the outdoors and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed riding motorcycles on the river bottom, hunting turkeys, camping, playing softball, and skiing at the lake. These childhood joys reflected Mary’s adventurous spirit and her passion for making memories with the people she loved.
She met the love of her life, Karl Farrington, in 1985. They married three years later and began building a life together. The couple moved to Twin Pine Ranch on Laramie Peak, where they enjoyed the beauty and adventures of Wyoming. They welcomed their daughter Courtney on August 12, 1992. Mary and Karl later moved to Casper, Wyoming, where they raised Courtney and continued their careers together at Medical Equipment Specialties. Mary also worked for several years at an orthodontic office in Casper.
Family was always at the heart of Mary’s life. She loved following Courtney during summers of traveling softball, cheering her on wherever the road took them. Mary treasured time spent with her family at the lake in Casper and traveling into the Wyoming mountains. She eventually took early retirement and returned to Nebraska where she devoted her time to helping care for her beloved grandchildren, McKenzie and Weston.
Mary’s greatest joy was her family. She will be remembered for her loving heart, devotion to those she loved, adventurous spirit, and infectious laugh that could brighten any room. Mary leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be cherished by all who loved her.
Survivors include her loving husband of 37 years, Karl Farrington; daughter, Courtney (Cole Shultz) Meininger; grandchildren, McKenzie and Weston Meininger; siblings, Carol (Kenny) Farrington and Jerry (Brenda) Nortness; nieces, Annie (JJ) Weidaman, Candace (Joey) Muhr, April Nortness, and Morgan (Caleb) Kinnaman; great-nieces and great-nephews, Zoey and Wyatt Weidaman, Kaylynn and Kaysen Muhr, and Bryxton, Huxley, and Porter Kinnaman; along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and LaVonne Nortness; as well as other extended family members.
Mary will be deeply missed, but her laughter, love, and the memories she created with her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
