Matthew was born September 22, 1975, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Royce and Mary (Vallejos) Wills. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1994 before continuing his education at Colorado State University.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting in 1999, followed by his Master of Science in Business Administration in Accounting and Taxation in 2000. His dedication to his profession was evident early in his career, with his work published in the Journal of Accountancy in 2001.
Matthew enjoyed a distinguished career in accounting and finance, holding positions with Arthur Andersen, KPMG, the University of Northern Colorado, Colorado State University, and Inventive Wireless of Nebraska, among others. He eventually pursued his dream of owning his own business, establishing Wills Accounting & Tax Group in Scottsbluff. He took great pride in his work and was known for his intelligence, attention to detail, and dedication to doing things well.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Matthew generously shared his knowledge and talents with his community. He served as accountant and treasurer for Alley Cat Campus and volunteered his financial and analytical expertise with the High Plains Auto Club.
Matthew was a quiet, independent, and kindhearted man who found joy in the simple things in life. He had an incredible eye for decorating and took great pride in his beautiful, meticulously maintained home. Everything had its place, and anyone who visited could appreciate his attention to detail—right down to the perfectly straight vacuum lines in the carpet.
An avid sports fan, Matthew faithfully cheered on his beloved Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets. He also had a great love of music, especially Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. He enjoyed listening to his favorite songs, sharing laughter, and spending time with the people he loved.
Family was important to Matthew, and he had a special way of making others feel remembered and appreciated. Whether it was a birthday, holiday, or family celebration, he always made sure to have a card or a little something for the person being honored. Although he was never one to seek the spotlight, he loved gathering with family, sharing a laugh, and occasionally letting his hair down to enjoy the moment.
Those who knew Matthew will remember his gentle spirit, thoughtful gestures, meticulous nature, and caring heart. He was one of those rare individuals whose quiet kindness and genuine goodness spoke louder than words. He left a lasting impression, not through grand gestures, but simply by being the wonderful person he was.
Matthew is survived by his father, Royce Wills; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Vallejos) Wills; and grandparents, John Sr. and Mercedes "Mercy" (Perez) Vallejos, Harry Wills, and Esther (Bisterfeldt) Wills.
Matthew's life was marked not only by what he accomplished, but by the kindness he showed, the laughter he shared, and the quiet ways he made others feel loved. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
