Ramona Kay Handley, age 83, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Monument Rehabilitation and Care Center in Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled in accordance with her wishes. Memorials may be made in care of her son, Scott Handley. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting Ramona’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.
Ramona was born on December 6, 1942, in Redfield, South Dakota, as the third of five children of Leonard Raymond and Josephine Ila (Patten) Kuhl. Her family moved to Oregon when she was a child, and she attended school in Eugene and Junction City. Ramona graduated from Junction City High School. She went on to attend secondary school at Northwest Christian College and later transferred to Platte Valley Bible College (now Summit Christian College) in Scottsbluff where she graduated in 1966.
She married Jack LeRoy Handley on February 11, 1972, at the Church at Bryant. To this union came their son, Scott.
After graduating college, Ramona became the office secretary at the Church at Bryant (now WestWay Christian Church) for over 9 years. She worked in long-term care for more than 27 years as the Activity Director at Scottsbluff Nursing Center and later at Northfield Retirement Communities. Her love for the elderly and music carried over into her career as she regularly played the baritone ukelele for the residents. Ramona retired in May of 2007 to spend more time with her husband enjoying their home.
Ramona grew up living lakeside and carried that love of the outdoors throughout her life. She loved taking camping trips with her family and said it was the best way to “appreciate the wonders of God”. She adored crafting and gardening, which were skills she used frequently when making floral arrangements for her church. Ramona sang with the Gospel Echoe’s Trio for several years. Her church family at WestWay have been one of her greatest blessings in life.
Survivors include her son, Scott Handley; and numerous family members and cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Handley.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
“I’ll thank Him for the pain of yesterday when he takes His nail scarred hands and wipes my final tears away. When face to face, I see the master’s plan He had for me, I’ll thank Him for the pain of yesterday.”
