Reed Alan Happold

October 22, 1953 — April 15, 2024

Our Papa, Reed Alan Happold, age 70, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, April 15th, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.  Per his wishes, a private celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Nebraska Game and Parks Foundation, the PupPacks Program or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting Reed’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.

Reed was born in Sidney, Nebraska on October 22, 1953, to Donald Dean and Betty Jane (Highland) Happold.  He graduated from Sidney High School with the class of 1972 and attended Kearney State College.

He married Carolyn Fisher in 1973 and together they welcomed three daughters: Jody, Aly, and Kacey.  Reed worked for Associated Grocers of Colorado prior to moving to Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1982.  He continued his career with Panhandle Co-Op grocery division until retirement in 2016.

An avid hunter and fisherman, some of his favorite times were camping, boating, and spending weekends at the lake house with his family.  Affectionately called “Papa”, he was often found tinkering in his garage and “wheeling and dealing” (buying and selling tools, boats, and cars).   Reed could fix anything and never met a piece of duct tape or fishing line he couldn’t find a use for.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; daughters, Jody (Keith) Gagnon, Alyson (Matt) Palmer, and Kacey (Jared) Ross; grandchildren, Ashleigh Smith, Natalie and Madison Gagnon, and Ethan, Loren, and Hudson Ross; brothers, Dave (Lonnie) Happold and Mark (Jennifer) Happold; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Betty Happold; and parents-in-law, Loren and Lucile Fisher.

Reed’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to Hospice for the amazing care and support they provided to Reed to ensure he was comfortable during his final days at home.
