Richard “Dick” Alva Woodard, 86, of Torrington, Wyoming, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Torrington Community Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Gering Zion Church in Gering, Nebraska with Pastor Tim Hebbert officiating. The Nebraska Army National Guard and Gering American Legion Post 36 Honor Guard will provide military honors. Cremation has taken place in accordance with Richard’s wishes. Memorials may be made in care of Gering Zion Church, the VFW Post 1681, or the Gering American Legion Post 36. The service will be live-streamed and recorded to Richard’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.
Richard was born June 29, 1937, in Scottsbluff on a farm in the Sunflower Community to Alva Charles and Evelyn (Taft) Woodard. He attended grade school in the Lyman, Nebraska area and high school in Morrill, Nebraska. Richard enlisted in the US Army following high school in 1957.
He married the love of his life, Shirley Weimer, during his time of duty. Three children were born to this union: Darrell, Roxanne, and Anthony.
Richard spent his lifetime working in the agriculture industry including livestock feed, fertilizer, chemical and crop sciences, irrigation districts, and center pivot irrigation companies. He was a college professor in the Ag Center at Western Nebraska Community College from 1980 until his retirement in 2000. Richard then started his own consulting company, Midwest Environmental, which he ran for the next twelve years.
Survivors include his children, Darrell (Shannon) Woodard of Mt. Vernon, WA, Roxi Corr of Tumwater, WA, and Tony Woodard of Lincoln, NE; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, all of whom he loved very much; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special buddy, Peanut.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley; parents, Alva and Evelyn; mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary and Henry Weimer; sister, Lavonne Huskstep; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold, Raymond, Henry, John, Ed, and Richard Weimer, Mary Kautz, Irene Kallis, and Sally Green.
