Richard was born on December 6, 1961, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Gilbert and Josie (Ramos) Gallegos. He attended Scottsbluff Public Schools and graduated from Scottsbluff Senior High School Class of 1980. Richard enlisted in the Army National Guard at the age of 18 and served on active duty until 1984. During his time in the service, he became a Power Generation and Wheel Vehicle Mechanic.

He married his first wife, Linda Ackerman, in May of 1984 and together they welcomed two sons, Richard G. and Thomas. Richard and his sons later moved to Virginia where they lived for many years before returning to his hometown of Scottsbluff.

Richard was welcomed back to his old job at Benzel Pest Control where he worked for a total of nearly nine years. He spent most of his life working as a truck driver for several companies. Richard’s final place of employment was helping his sister Debbie at her restaurant, Pineapples.

Friends and family who truly knew Richard would know that his favorite thing to do was travel. Having his sister as his boss made it easy to keep that passion alive. Richard loved riding his motorcycle across the country, often leaving a little early so he could take the scenic route. He would collect bandanas along the way as a token of his journeys. One of his greatest goals was to ride through all 48 continental states, which he proudly accomplished. His favorite pastime, when he wasn’t traveling or working, was watching movies and being outdoors. Richard was a generous man who deeply loved his family. He was a jokester at heart and especially enjoyed teasing and laughing with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving sons, Richard G. (Josie) and Thomas (Lisa) Gallegos; grandchildren, Uriah, Alexander, Riley, and Dawn Gallegos; siblings, Gilbert Gallegos Jr., Rosemary Paez, Debbie (Francisco) Subias, and Paul Gallegos; sister-in-law, Linda Gallegos; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Gilbert and Josie Gallegos; sister, Gloria Gallegos; and brothers, Daniel and David Gallegos.
