Richard Dale Scott Sr.

Jul 22, 1948 — Sep 26, 2026

Richard Dale Scott Sr., age 78, passed away at his home in Minatare, Nebraska, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled at this time. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting Rich’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.

Rich was born on July 22, 1948, in Bend, Oregon, to Hubert Edwin and Lavina Fern (Christianson) Scott.

He owned a motel in Sidney, Nebraska, before moving to Minatare and working for Minatare Feedlot Inc for many years. Rich moved and owned a bar in Bertrand, Nebraska, but later returned home to Minatare in the early 2000’s to be near his son’s family.

Rich enjoyed raising cattle with his son Rick and grandson Josh. He played a big role in the lives of Josh, Josh’s cousins, Tate Barnes and Brock Sanchez, and many of Josh’s high school friends. Rich taught them the ropes of riding horses and raising cattle. They nicknamed him “Pappy” and the name stuck throughout the years for all who knew him. Rich spent most of his days with Rick and his children, Josh and Brooke. The last few years of his life were spent making quality time with his son every single day. Rick would take Rich for frequent drives around Lake Minatare and running into town for a burger or twist ice cream cone. Rich loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they never failed to put a smile on his face.

Survivors include his brother, Mike Scott of Colorado; daughter, Shelly (Jeff) Ham of Florida; son, Rick (Jamie) Scott of Nebraska; grandchildren, Ashley McCord of Colorado, Josh (Jessica) Scott of Nebraska, Shayleigh (Jack) Dorr of Florida, Brooke (Chris) Lang of Nebraska, Tanner Minch of Alabama, and Jordan Minch of Colorado; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Aubree Scott, Graceson and Raegan Lang, Kaleb and Braydon McCord, Jaxon Dorr, and Sawyer, Caleb, and Ethan Dorr.
