Rodney Lee Grasmick

Rodney Lee Grasmick, age 72, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away with his loving family by his side on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and inurnment will follow at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance in Alliance, Nebraska. Rod was born on February 14, 1954, in Torrington, Wyoming, to Robert and Janet Elaine (Mitchell) Schwartzkopf. He attended school in Torrington before his family moved to Morrill, Nebraska in 1962. Janet later remarried Robert “Beaver Bob” Grasmick, who adopted Rod and gave him the Grasmick last name. He graduated from Morrill High School where he played football all four years and lettered for two.

He married Denise Hinman in 1972, and their son Andrew was born. The family stayed in Morrill where Rod became a police officer. Upon the couple’s separation, Rod moved to Minatare, Nebraska, where he continued his work in law enforcement and was later employed at Harry’s Truck Stop. Rod met Suzanne “Sue” Marie (Haffner) in 1976, and gained a stepson, Alan. The couple married on January 3, 1981, and to this union came three additional children; Timothy, Jennifer, and Thomas. Rod was deployed to Germany for 18 months with the United States Army shortly after he and Sue’s wedding. He remained in the U.S. National Guard until his retirement.

Rod was a member of the Gering American Legion Post #36. He loved solitaire and playing word puzzles. Rod got along with everyone and always gave 100% at whatever he did. He enjoyed going to his class reunions and catching up with his classmates. He still wore his letterman jacket from high school proudly at these events.

Survivors include his children, Alan, Tim, Jennifer, and Thomas Grasmick; wife, Sue Grasmick; sister, Robin (Henry) Ysac; aunt, Naomi “Auntie” Carpenter; and nephews, Christopher and Curtis Grasmick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Grasmick and Janet (Bill) Crowley; son, Andrew Grasmick; and brother, Richard Grasmick.
