Ron was born August 21, 1941, at Hartington, Nebraska, to Edward Fredrick Greckel and Henrietta (Ehlers) Greckel. He attended country school and graduated from Crofton, Nebraska High School in 1961. Ron and his family moved to Gering in 1962.

He began working at Al Flamming Gas Station, Lockwood Graders, Coke Co., and CO-OP Refinery before establishing Ron Greckel Construction on June 15, 1973. Ron built the Super 8 Motel, several additions for Budweiser Co., many homes and steel buildings in western Nebraska, and a U.S. Post Office in Bernalillo, New Mexico. Ron retired after fifty years in business.

He married Rosaline “Rose” Rhoades on November 23, 1963, and two sons were born to this union, Robb and Ronald “Corey”.

Together Ron and Rose enjoyed their retirement, spending seventeen years wintering at their Arizona home. Ron loved trail riding in his Razor with his son and many of his beloved Arizona friends. Ron was always counting the days until they would head back to their Arizona home.

Ron also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trap shooting. He took pride in showing his trophy room to friends and family, which was filled with big deer, antelope, moose, bear, and cougar mounts. Ron placed in the National Top 500 Trapshooters and celebrated when he shot his 25,000th blue rock.

Ron will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. His big hugs and companionship are especially a huge loss to his beloved wife of 63 years, Rose. Survivors include his sons, Robb (Sandy) and Corey (Debbie) Greckel; grandchildren, Nathan and Blake (Sarah) Greckel, Chelsea Wilson, and Tawny O’Conner; great-granddaughter, Bella Wilson; niece, Kammie (John) Wilson; along with other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Henrietta Greckel; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lee and Mike Merkel; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harley and Frances Rhoades; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marcella and Lewis Alspaugh, Luella and Don Mattox, and Dean and Richard Rhoades; and nieces and nephews, Ronnie Alspaugh, Rodney and Connie Anderson, Kathy Merkel, and Dennis, Darrel, and Tina Rhoades.
