Roy was born on March 15, 1944, in Scottsbluff, to Ray Gerald and Martina (Byrd) Medbery. He helped his parents on the dairy farm while going to high school at Kimball public schools. Roy later received his GED and was drafted into the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Naha air base in Okinawa, Japan, as an aircraft mechanic. Roy received many decorations during his service and was honorably discharged in 1970. He worked for AT&T and later for Fastbreak Windshield Repair. Roy ventured on to his own business called R&T Windshield Repair. His first two marriages brought his children, Kathlene May, Roy Martin Jr., and Julie Dawn. Roy married the love of his life, Tamera “Tammy” Lynn Robertus in 2002, and the couple made their life together in Scottsbluff.

He was a proud member of the VFW, where he assisted with Friday night Bingo. He loved to play Texas Hold’em on his tablet during his nightly TV time and above all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Roy was the kind of family man who would hop in his car and drive all the way to Lincoln, Nebraska, to spend time with them. He could play cards for hours and hours anytime he met up with his dad, uncle, and cousins. Roy could talk the leg off an old friend whenever he got the chance to catch up with one.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Medbery; daughters, Kathlene (Randy) Bateman of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Julie (Kyle) Atkin of Bakersfield, California; sisters, Elnora (Tom) Culek of Kimball, Nebraska, and Dorothy (Shannon) Smith of Round Mountain, Nevada; brother-in-law, Jim Garrett of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; eight nieces; nine nephews; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son, Roy Medbery Jr.; sister, Janice Garrett; special cousins, Gerald and Herald Medbery; uncle and whom he was named after, Roy Medbery; parents, Ray and Martina Medbery; and mother-in-law, Verna F. Robertus.
