Sam was born October 22, 1953, in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Pablo and Maria Elena (Orozio) Cardona.

He met Reyes Cano while working at the Howard McLean Potato Factory in Scottsbluff. They were wed on July 10, 1976, in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple later returned to Scottsbluff and together they welcomed their three children.

Sam’s work history included employment at Lockwood, R&C Welding, and Scottsbluff Industries.

He was a member of Casa de Milagos (House of Miracles). He took part in the jail ministries. Sam was blessed with a wonderful musical talent and found joy in sharing his love of music with others. He liked playing a variety of music, playing the drums, and singing. One of his favorite things was leading the music at church, where he also faithfully served as a cheerful door greeter each Sunday. His faith was an important part of his life, and over the years, he enjoyed attending several retreats that nurtured his spiritual journey.

Sam also enjoyed sitting at McDonald’s, where he loved meeting new people, striking up conversations, and talking for hours. He had a special way of connecting with others and found joy in sharing stories and making new friends.

Above all, Sam cherished his family and loved taking family trips, making memories filled with laughter and love that will be treasured for years to come. He also had a special place in his heart for his nine beloved fur-baby doggies, who brought him companionship. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend to many.

Throughout the past year, Sam fought courageously against cancer. Despite the challenges he faced, he cherished every moment he was given with his family and friends. Every visit, conversation, laugh, and moment spent with loved ones became even more precious. His strength and love for those around him will forever remain part of his story.

Survivors include his son, Samuel Jr. (Cecilia) Cardona, Jennifer (Harley) Smith, and Dehlia (Jesus) Galindo; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; siblings, Josue (Soledad) Cardona, Andres (Luicia) Cardona, Elizabeth Cardona, Moises (Rosa) Cardona, Daniel Cardona, Pablo (Teresa) Cardona, and Rodeh Irene Cardona (Angel Vega); along with numerous extended family members and friends.
