Sherman “Jim” James Sandlian, age 71, of Gering, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at his home after living a life full of love. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes, and no services are scheduled at this time. Memorials may be made in care of the family. Jim was born on March 8, 1954, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Sherman Miles and Freda (Deines) Sandlian.
He had a remarkable talent for making friends with many people. Jim enjoyed fishing with his sons and was always up for eating a good meal with his family. In his retired years, Jim was well known for his love of gardening and playing cribbage with his wife, Lourdes. He will continue to be loved and deeply missed by many.
Survivors include the love of his life, Lourdes Mary Sandlian; sons, Max P., Matthew J., Michael J., and Marcus M. Sandlian; grandchildren, Jesse, Anjelica, Alecia, Alanna, and Joseph Sandlian; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Freda Sandlian; brother, Jack Sandlian; and sister, Ginger Klein.
