Spencer was born in Scottsbluff, on July 15, 1944, to James “Jim” and Sadie (Emery) Tryon. He and his older sister, Patty, were raised on the family farm north of Minatare. His father was a truck driver for LTX, and his mother was an accountant for Terry Carpenter. Spencer graduated from Minatare High School in 1963.
He married Jean Marie Skorupa on September 12, 1964. They farmed north of Minatare and welcomed a daughter, Theresa, in 1966. The family moved to Scottsbluff in 1971, where Spencer and his father founded Tryon & Tryon Trucking. In 1975, he and Jean purchased a farm south of Lake Minatare. Spencer farmed and also worked for Great Western Sugar. The family raised cattle, pigs, and registered Suffolk sheep. Spencer retired from the sugar factory in 2006 after 21 years. They sold the last of the farm in 2023 and moved to Gering.
Many trips were taken during Spencer and Jean’s retirement years, going to Deadwood, South Dakota, and to Colorado and Arizona to visit their daughter. Spencer liked fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed the companionship of his beloved dogs, Pivo and Farley.
Survivors include his daughter, Theresa, of Sun City West, AZ; brother-in-law, Ray Holmes of Texas; sister-in-law, Susan Mullen (Frank) of Reno, NV; and nephews, Vance Holmes (Sue) of Gering and Bryon Holmes of Estes Park, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Sadie Tryon; his wife, Jean, by only two days; sister, Patty Holmes; brother, Larry Tryon; in-laws, Edward and Marie Skorupa; and brother in-law, David Skorupa.
