Born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on July 21, 1959, to Mona Charlotte (Johnson) and John William Bowlin, Tom lived a life centered on family, friendship, and hard work. He married Tina Sue Sims in 1981 and together they welcomed three children, Jessica, Brandi, and Derek. Though their marriage ended in 1996, the love he had for his children remained one of the greatest joys and priorities in his life.
Tom dedicated 37 years to the grain industry at the Lyman facility, working 8 years as a Grain Operator for the Lyman Elevator before its transition to Crossroads Cooperative in 1995. He remained with Crossroads Cooperative for 29 years and retired in 2024. While working for Crossroads Cooperative, he was respected for his dedication, strong work ethic, dependable nature, and his humor. He took pride in his work and the relationships he built along the way.
Fishing was one of Tom's greatest passions. He loved spending time outdoors with a fishing pole in hand at the Morrill Sandpits, watching fishing shows, and sharing stories of his attempts to catch a fish or two. Tom was also an avid fan of softball and Saints football. He enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams everywhere he went, even if that meant asking for the tv channel to be changed as soon as he walked in. Tom took pleasure in collecting and shooting firearms, listening to oldies music, and spending time socializing with family and friends.
Tom brought laughter wherever he went with his outgoing personality, quick wit, and perfectly timed sarcastic remarks. His stories could captivate a room, and his humor could brighten even the hardest days. Tom never missed an opportunity to tell someone he loved them, whether through a warm hug or a simple conversation.
He was a loving father, papa, son, brother, and friend. Tom is woven into the fabric of his family’s lives, and his love, guidance, and presence shaped them all in countless ways. His absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled. Tom’s heart was pure, his smile was welcoming, and he never met a stranger. He had a gift for making people feel loved and accepted. To those fortunate enough to know him, he offered unconditional love, support, and friendship. His family always knew that when they needed advice, comfort, laughter, or simply some "Dad time,” he would be a phone call away.
Survivors include his children, Jessica (Steve Lind) Bowlin, Brandi (Michael) Trombley, and Derek (Adriana) Bowlin; grandchildren, Madisyn and Mersaydez Carrizales, and Maddox Bowlin; father, John Bowlin; siblings, Judy, Don (Barbara), Mike, Kenny (Tammi), and Dale (Karen) Bowlin; and many other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mona Bowlin; brother, Bill Bowlin; sister, Jayne Phillips; brother-in-law, Tim Phillips; sister-in-law, Mary Bowlin; ex-wife, Tina Bowlin; and his grandparents.
Though his family grieves his loss, they find comfort in knowing he is now resting peacefully and free from pain. While they say goodbye for now, they will continue to carry his love, his stories, and his spirit with them every day.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
