Timmy Dean Bowers, age 70, of Bayard, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at his home. Cremation has taken place and services will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting Tim’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.
Tim was born on January 4, 1956, in Bridgeport, Nebraska, to Stanley and Geneva June (Rafferty) Bowers. He attended Bayard Public Schools but due to lifelong hearing issues, he joined the workforce early.
He dedicated over 40 years of his life as a ditch rider, working for Chimney Rock, Short Line, Bayard Canal, Nine Mile, Pathfinder, and Northport Irrigation Districts. Tim couldn’t get enough of the water, although his family humorously noted that he never learned to swim.
Tim’s loved ones referred to him by his nickname, “Shadow”, a title he earned from his brother-in-law, Glen Douglas. He was always tagging along, to which Glen affectionately said he had a little shadow and the name stuck. Tim cherished his frequent trips to Arizona with his cousin, Greg Bowers, to visit their old friend, Mel Parker. He had numerous memorable stories about how he somehow managed to encounter swarms of bees each time he visited. Tim enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with his nephews Jeremy and Adam. He was a familiar face at his local coffee shops, where he enjoyed his daily gatherings with the guys.
Survivors include his siblings, Wilford Bowers of Gering, Carole (Carl) Roach of Bridgeport, and Charyl Henne of Gering; special uncle, Vince (Patty) Rafferty of Bayard; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Geneva Bowers; sister, Beverly Douglas; nephew, Adam Roach; cousins, Henry Case Jr. and Randy Sinks; and infant nephew, baby boy Case.
