Wayne was born on April 22, 1942, in Gering, Nebraska, to Hilmer and Eunice (Griess) Hofmann. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1960. Wayne continued his education at Kearney State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later received his Master of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

He married the love of his life, Janice Ellen Castiaux, on August 21, 1965. The two of them shared 60 years of marriage and raised three daughters: Angie, Heidi, and Jessica. Wayne took great pride in his children and grandchildren.

Early in his career, Wayne dedicated eight years to teaching industrial arts, sharing his skills and knowledge with students. He later transitioned into real estate, where his work ethic and integrity served him well. Wayne and Janice also founded their own business, Hofmann and Hofmann Realty.

The couple shared a deep love of travel, visiting more than 30 countries and many US states. Wayne also loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, with a special passion for fly fishing, tying his own flies, and canoeing in the redwood canoe he built himself. Wayne was known for his remarkable ability to fix almost anything. He was exceptionally handy, skilled in construction, and took great pride in building the home where he and Janice lived for 53 years. Their home was a testament to his craftsmanship and dedication.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Janice Hofmann; his daughters, Angie (Brian) Kubik, Heidi (Schane) Adams, and Jessica (Joe) McMullen; grandchildren, Ian and Erin Kubik, Bella, Lacey, and Cayden Adams, and Alex and Finnley McMullen; brother, Ron Hofmann; and sister-in-law, Carolyn (Dick) Schlager.
