Laverne Peters

August 10, 1936 — January 6, 2023

Laverne Peters, 86, of Mitchell, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Emerald Court in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.  A special gathering with family present will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff. A private family inurnment will take place at a separate time at Forest Lawn Cemetery near Morrill, Nebraska.  The family respectfully requests that memorials be given to Emerald Court.  The graveside will be livestreamed and recorded to Laverne’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.

Laverne was born August 10, 1936, to Marquis and Elda (Waechter) Purviance.  She attended school in Morrill, graduating in 1955.

Laverne was working as a nurse aid at St. Mary’s Hospital when she met the love of her life, Heinz Peters.  They married on August 10, 1956, at St. Paul’s Church in Mitchell and added three children to their family.  She was a member of the St. Paul’s Church and later the Zion Evangelical Church.

Laverne could be found helping Heinz on the farm or with his hog feeding operation.  She later worked as a CNA in the Mitchell Care Center for fifteen years.  She enjoyed supporting and attending the activities of her children, granddaughters, and great grandchildren.  Laverne took great pride in her flower beds and garden.  The birds that came to visit were fed faithfully.

Survivors include her daughter, Debra (Wes) Ullrich; son, Richard Peters; granddaughters, Stacey DeMaranville and Sarah (Jason) Houk; great grandchildren, Rylan Houk, Adrianna DeMaranville, and Jarin Houk; sisters, Virginia (Reo) Radford and Joanne Kurtz; brother, Larry Purviance; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families. Additional family members located in Germany also mourn her loss.

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Heinz; daughter, Kim Peters; siblings, Jerry, Bev (William) Greenhalgh, Gary, Eddie, Dale, Terry, and an infant brother; brother-in-law, Harlan Kurtz; and sister-in-law, Jean Purviance.

The family wishes to extend a huge thank you to the staff at Emerald Court for the excellent care and compassion given to Laverne during the last two and a half years as she struggled with dementia.
