Lupe Ramirez

October 21, 1933 — February 26, 2023

Lupe Ramirez, 89, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.  A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2023, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff with Fr. Joseph Thambi officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Scottsbluff.  The Nebraska Army National Guard and Gering American Legion Post 36 Honor Guard will provide military honors. Cremation has taken place in accordance with Lupe’s wishes. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The service will be livestreamed and recorded to Lupe’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.

Lupe was born October 21, 1933, in Lyman, Nebraska to Bentura and Brigett (Quesada) Ramirez. He attended school at Lyman before joining the United States Army in 1955. Lupe was attached to Alpha Company 127th Engineer Battalion (Airborne). He was awarded the good conduct medal and earned a parachutist badge prior to his honorable discharge in 1958.

He returned home to the Scottsbluff area and began a 26-year career at Lockwood in Gering.   Lupe became a proud father to his only son, Ben Ramirez, during that time. Lupe was later employed at Kelly Bean as well as the University of Nebraska Lincoln extension office before his retirement at age 65.

Lupe enjoyed fishing and exercising. Most of all, Lupe enjoyed his garden and sharing the fruits of his labor. He was member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors include his son, Ben (Fran) Ramirez of Daingerfield, TX; grandchildren, Ryan Ramirez, Jayley Ramirez, and Brett Ramirez of Rockwall, Texas; brother, Louie Ramirez of Scottsbluff; sister, Betty (Tony) Segura of Kansas City, MO; numerous nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Tom and Caroline Guzman, who dedicated themselves to caring for Lupe in his final months.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Lou Quijas, Angela Flores, and Julia Ramirez; and brothers, John and Tiofilo Ramirez.
