Robert Closson

November 30, 1943 — June 20, 2022

Robert Dale Closson, 78, of Haig, Nebraska, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, at Goshen Care Center in Torrington, Wyoming.  A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff with Pastor Herb Rainey officiating.  Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, Nebraska, with military honors provided by the United States Navy and Gering American Legion Post 36 Honor Guard.  The services will be livestreamed and recorded to Robert’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.  Memorials may be made to the Veteran’s Help Foundation.

Robert was born on November 30, 1943, to Harold and Mildred (Gardner) Closson in Rushville, Nebraska.  He attended thirteen schools between Oregon and Nebraska. He graduated from Sunflower High School with the Class of 1962.  Robert participated in football, basketball, wrestling, and track during high school.

He married Carolyn Jean Ewing on May 18, 1964, at Central Church of Christ in Gering. The couple was blessed with three children: Wendy, Veronica, and Scott.  They purchased a home in the town of Haig in 1970 and resided there until their passing.

Robert worked various jobs following high school until he enlisted in the Navy in 1964.  He served his country in Tennessee and California before being honorably discharged in 1968.

He drove truck for WNX and ONC during the 1970s, delivering freight in the Nebraska Panhandle.  Bob then began work at Midwest PMS filling the positions of service and plant manager until his retirement.  He traveled to various job locations in Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, and Kansas during that time.

Robert filled his retirement years helping his children with home projects, hunting, fishing, and recycling metals from electronic devices.  He also enjoyed many meals at the Log Cabin, and playing Keno at the Rompus Room. He liked visiting with the regulars catching up on the gossip.

He began residing in the Goshen Care Center in January 2022 as he recovered from health complications. The staff enjoyed his sense of humor as they took excellent care of him helping him to regain some of his strength.

Survivors include his children, Wendy Closson of Haig, Veronica and Dale Von Lintel of Scottsbluff, and Scott Closson of Gering; grandsons, Jacob (Morgan) Von Lintel of Morrill and Adam Von Lintel (Kinleigh Soule) of Scottsbluff; granddaughters, Brittney Johnson (Tanner Shaw) of Gering, Breana Johnson (Freeman Coleman Jr.) of Omaha, and Brooke Johnson (Ben Feagley) of Yoder, WY; great grandchildren, Kendra and Khloe Shaw, Everest Coleman, and Waylon, Bentley and Walker Feagley; brother, Chester (Sue) Closson of Marinette, WI; sisters-in-law, Anita Closson of Terrytown and Sally Closson of Ontario, OR.  He also left behind eight nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Closson; parents, Harold and Mildred Closson; parents-in-law, Myron and Fern Ewing; brothers, Roger Closson and Allen Closson; and two nieces, Melanie Steinmark and Denise Closson.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and care givers at Goshen Care Center for their excellent care and compassion to Bob during his illness.
