Vicki Deans

Vicki Lou Deans, age 67, of Crawford, Nebraska, died Friday, January 20, 2023, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.  A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Crawford Community Center, 1001 1st Street in Crawford, with Pastor Jim Domingo officiating. Cremation has taken place in accordance with her wishes. Memorials may be made in care of the family and will be designated at a later date. Vicki was born July 29, 1955, in Chadron to Lewis and Audrey (Allen) Summers.  She was raised in Crawford where she attended Crawford Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1973.  Vicki went on to attend college to become a dietician.

Vicki became a proud mother to her first born, Beau.  She was residing and working in Hay Springs when she met William “Bill” Deans.  They married and welcomed two children, Josh and Amber.

She committed her life to caring for others and was a hardworking, loving mother to her three children. She held several different jobs over the years ranging from ranching, farming, daycare, cooking, and serving.  Vicki achieved her certified nurses’ aide license and was a caregiver to others before her own ill health prevented her from doing so any longer.

An important highlight to Vicki’s life was becoming a grandma to ten very special kids. She loved doing everything possible with them including teaching them nursery rhymes, going to the zoo, watching their various sports and school activities, and in general, spending as much time as possible with them playing games and loving them, “to the moon and back”.

Vicki was active on various bowling leagues and enjoyed playing games whenever she could.  Her grandmother, Birdie, taught her to play card games. Vicki passed the love of card playing onto the children of the family so games could continue to be enjoyed by all generations.  Scrapbooking was one of her favorite hobbies and she found a particular delight in collecting PEZ dispensers.

She will always be remembered as the “Saturday Caller” of the family.  Vicki, with her naturally affectionate nature, developed a routine dedicating each Saturday to making phone calls to numerous family members.  She kept everyone lighthearted with her silly jokes, playful pranks, and overall happy character. One thing Vicki was serious about though was her unwavering faith, trust, and belief in God. She even took the time to call local residents to let them know that they were loved by Jesus and that somebody cared about them.

Survivors include her children, Beau (Angela) Summers of Rapid City, SD, Josh Deans of Hay Springs, NE, and Amber (Herbert) Offord of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Jordan, Skylar, Elianah, Noah, and Tobias Summers, Orlando Hernandez, and Taytem, Devyn, Keneisha, and Mackenzie Deans; siblings, Jody (Bill) Weinmeister of Morrill, NE, Jamie Summers of Crawford, NE, Tammy (Ruben) Lujan of Brighton, CO, Lisa Lineback of Chandler, AZ, Michael (Kathy) Summers of Martell, NE, Steven (Sandy) Summers of Chadron, NE, Darla (Bryan) Hornby of Lincoln, NE, Leslie (Jim) Domingo of Crawford, NE, and Tracy Summers of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Barb Genaro of Broomfield, CO; aunts, Georgia Trump of Scottsbluff, NE and Betty Wagner of Mountain Home, ID; uncle, Lyle Allen of Colorado Springs, CO; along with a host of extended family members and friends.

Vicki was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Joe and Ruth Summers; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Birdie Allen; parents, Lewis and Audrey Summers; brothers, Wayne Summers, Allen Summers, Robert Summers, and Jeffrey Summers; and former husband, Bill Deans.
